Arts Canteen is seeking to engage a talented freelance Digital Communications Officer.
The main purpose of the role will be to provide specialist marketing support for key Arts Canteen events and projects and the on-going work of the organisation, with a focus on social media, print design and digital marketing.
The post-holder will report directly to Arts Canteen’s Director.
7 hours a week (1 day) – Payrate: £150 Per Day
The Digital Communications Officer will ensure maximum exposure for Arts Canteen, ensuring that our reputation is protected and that the company profile is raised and amplified at every possible opportunity – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Ensure the Arts Canteen brand, core messages and corporate identity are consistently and effectively deployed across all marketing plans.
- Management of Arts Canteen social media channels, to include development of social media strategy and day-to-day writing and scheduling of posts to support Arts Canteen activities on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
- Day-to-day management of Arts Canteen website, including liaising with designers, devising copy, features and news items.
- Gathering copy, writing and editing Arts Canteen’s monthly newsletter.
- Liaison with and appointment of freelance designers and print agencies to ensure accurate and timely production of marketing materials to support Arts Canteen’s activities.
- Liaison with artists and partners to gather marketing materials and to align all activity with our artistic programme and wider corporate vision, aims and objectives.
- Provide regular evaluation on marketing and digital activities in order to contribute towards funding applications and funder reports.
Person Specification
Essential
- At least two years’ experience in Marketing & Communications roles in the cultural and creative sector, ideally including music, visual arts and new media.
- Excellent knowledge of digital communications channels and curiosity to always learn more as the landscape develops.
- Experience of communicating effectively with diverse audiences and an ability to tailor messages to a wide range of different demographics.
- Demonstrable track-record in developing and implementing successful marketing and communications strategies, plans and campaigns.
- Experience and understanding of contemporary marketing developments including relevant legislation (e.g. data protection, intellectual property) and the effective use of digital technology and social media.
- Good knowledge of the press and media landscape in the UK and internationally, including strong personal networks in both the mainstream and sector-specific media.

- An existing working knowledge of Arts Canteen, our audiences and our key partners
- Excellent research and analysis skills
- Knowledge of Arabic
- Understanding of design and basic design skills
- Experience of budgets and resources
This is a freelance role and the post-holder will be responsible for their own tax and N.I.
